Activity: Obedience

Family Night Activity: Making Lemonade

Needed:
2 glasses of water
Labels (paper or masking tape)
5 spoons
Lemonade mix
Lemon juice
Salt
A cup for each child
Napkins or towel
Tray (optional)

Label the glasses, “obedience” and “sin.” Fill each with water (2/3 full). Lemonade mix will be added 1 teaspoon at a time to “obedience.” Salt will be added 1 teaspoon at a time to “sin.” Lemon juice will be added 1 teaspoon at a time to “sin” (for good mixed with bad, e.g. obeying with a bad attitude.) You will need about 5-6 teaspoons per glass.

Ask questions for real-life scenarios in your family life. The kids should answer whether or not the character obeyed or disobeyed, and add 1 teaspoon appropriately. CAUTION: Don’t use the children’s names. They will feel that you are characterizing them as being obedient or sinful. Instead, use generic terms such as “a child.” At the end, let each child taste a little of each glass. Follow with discussion.

Examples of scenarios:
A child was told to pick up the dirty clothes, but instead he/she made the bed.
A child was called to the kitchen and came right away.
A child was asked to pick up the toys, but didn’t do it.
A child was asked to get socks, shoes, and a coat on, and did it with a smile.
A child was asked to get his/her homework done. He/she did it right away with a grumpy face.

Discussion:
Sin is gross, just like the salt water. God feels the same way and so do parents. Obeying tastes good and shows love. Be sure to review memory verse and definition.
